Every now and then I walk away from an interview saying, “Wow, that person is truly unforgettable.” These are some of the men and women I’ve had the honor of speaking with.
1) Dr. Albert Mohler
Time.com called Albert Mohler the “reigning intellectual of the evangelical movement in the U.S.” I wholeheartedly agree. I met Dr. Mohler at the Desiring God National Conference at the end of 2010, the same month he appeared on the cover of Christianity Today.
2) Jerry Bridges
I was honestly surprised when Jerry Bridges replied to my e-mail requesting an interview. Mr. Bridges has been serving the Lord for the majority of his 83 years, and I was anxious to glean from his wisdom. I remember reading his million-copy best-seller The Pursuit of Holiness in college and thinking how profound he was.
Listen to my conversation with Mr. Bridges about how we depend on Christ to make us holy.
3) Dr. Larry Crabb
Few modern authors have impacted me as much as Larry Crabb. While I don’t always agree with Crabb, he is a skillful communicator, counselor, and Christian thinker. Over the decades, his theological approach to sanctification has changed considerably (in a good way). In particular, his most recent writings focus on the community of the church as one of God’s primary means to transform us from the inside out.
Listen to my 6-part conversation with Dr. Crabb about how we can relate to other Christians in a such a way that we are stirred up to obey God from the heart.
4) Shelley Lubben
My job has exposed me to some unique people, but none quite as memorable as Shelley Lubben. Shelley is an ex-porn star who now ministers to women and men who are still in sex industry. Her story “rips the mask off” the porn industry, exposing it for the dark and seedy world that it is.
Listen to my tell-all interview with Shelley. Warning: this interview is not suitable for young audiences.
5) Dr. Doug Weiss
Dr. Weiss has worked for more than 20 years with sex addicts, their spouses, and their families. I’ve spoken with him numerous times and every time he impresses me as one of the most straightforward and direct communicators I’ve heard. His no-nonsense style and track record of success has earned him the media attention of the likes of Oprah, Dr. Phil, Good Morning America, and 20/20.
Listen to my conversation with Dr. Weiss about whether a wife should be her husband’s accountability partner when it comes to matters of lust.
6) Alicia Kozakiewicz
On the 10 year anniversary of her rescue from a brutal child predator, Alicia Kozakiewicz told me her horrific story. Of every interview I’ve done, none has garnered as much feedback as this one.
7) Trip Lee
I might be voted person least likely to strike up conversations with hip-hop performers, but my conversation with Trip Lee was very fun. Trip released his first album with Reach Records only a few days after his high school graduation, and he hasn’t looked back since. Between Two Worlds, Trip’s third album, was nominated for two Dove Awards and won the Stellar Award for Best Hip Hop Album in 2011.
Listen to my interview with Trip Lee and PRo about their hit song, Covenant Eyes.
8) Dr. Judith Reisman
If I could name my “favorite” interview, this one would be it. Judith Reisman perhaps best known for her research uncovering the secret practices and lifestyle of Alfred Kinsey, the intellectual forerunner of the sexual revolution. She received her Ph.D. in Communications from Case Western Reserve University. She was principal investigator for the U.S. Department of Justice study: Images of Children, Crime and Violence in Playboy, Penthouse and Hustler.
Listen to her interview: “Sexual Sabotage: Pornography, Impotence, and the Mad Scientist Who Started It All.”
9) Nate Larkin
I remember reading Nate Larkin’s Samson and the Pirate Monks and thinking “I need to meet this guy.” He is witty, winsome, and a great story-teller. His own heart-breaking story of sex addiction is memorable enough, but his real story is about how a fellowship of Christian men changed his life.
10) Dr. William Struthers
One of the more memorable dinners I’ve had was when I invited Michael Leahy (author of Porn Nation), Crystal Renaud (author of Dirty Girls Come Clean) and William Struthers (author of Wired For Intimacy) over to my home. Dr. Struthers is a neurobiologist who has uncovered research about how pornography impacts the brain. He was fascinating to listen to. I knew I had to have him on our podcast.
